At Onny Cottage, we like to do things a little differently. Unlike the big, corporate care homes, we're a family-run care home with a friendly team of local, familiar faces who are here to stay. You won’t find any contract staff here - that means you will always see the same caring people, building real connections and feeling part of our close-knit Onny community.
Our home is all about making sure you feel comfortable, happy, and well looked after. With experienced in-house clinicians and a team that really knows their stuff, we tailor the care to your individual needs, making sure your health and happiness are our top priority.

Right in the heart of the picturesque Earl of Plymouth Estate in Bromfield, our residents benefit from all the modern comforts and thoughtful touches that make it feel like home.
While we offer a variety of activities for our residents to enjoy, participation is always entirely optional. This ensures a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere—more like a ‘home away from home’—without the pressure of back-to-back scheduled events, allowing residents to engage at their own pace, just as they would in their own homes.

Onny Cottage is run by Occupational Therapist, Linda Harris and includes a bespoke therapy plan alongside support with personal care, washing and dressing, mobility, medication; and a care team to work with you to maintain your primary and secondary healthcare needs.
Single room for one from £1200.00 per week.
Double rooms for couples or friends sharing are available upon request, please enquire for further details.

My mother, at 101, reluctantly left her home in Somerset to be in residential care near us in Onny Cottage. It is a small home which has the feeling of being in a family with lovely friendly staff. Her room was spacious with a large window which suited Mum very well as she could watch the birds on the feeders right outside. The meals looked tasty and nutritious and Mum looked much better than she had for quite a while. During her last few weeks when she was bed bound and frail and the staff were wonderful at looking after her every need making sure she never had a bed sore. I felt very supported during the last few days and they were happy for me to spend the night with Mum.
Mum has been at Onny Cottage for several years now and we can say that the improvement in her quality of life has become immeasurably better. The staff are attentive to all of mums needs, sometimes she is not the easiest to deal with, but they treat her with respect and patience. They encourage her to push herself but are not demanding, so work with her. Communication is first class and we are always made aware of any changes that occur. We are very happy that mum is in a place which cares for her, and we have the knowledge that she is very well looked after.
My mother is extremely happy living at Onny Cottage which she moved in to in September 2024. She finds it very friendly and personal. The atmosphere feels very like a home from home. The staff are all unfailingly helpful and kind. I am always welcomed at any time and looked after, offered coffee etc. My mother is a local historian and the activities co-ordinator has taken her to the library on several occasions to help her with research which she is carrying out into the history of Onny Cottage. My mother has also enjoyed the regular chair based exercise classes and benefits from these a lot.
I have the highest regard for Onny Cottage and staff. Onny is provides a level of care and service that we hope all care homes would provide but unfortunately, few do. Quite simply they put the word care back into care-home. Entering Onny is like visiting an elderly relative's house, there's no beeping of machinery and residents are often together in the lounge , the TV might be on but it's never blaring and often there are "old fashioned " activities, such as making paper chains, taking place. I've even seen residents help peeling apples for pudding! Basically I can't sing the praises of Onny enough, my Dad was a different man after moving there from a large , corporate owned carehome; so much happier and I was able to relax too, knowing he really was being looked after. Thank you Onny Cottage!
It has been 16 months since we have visited Onny Cottage. We were delighted to find the same level of care and support for my mother-in-law. We chose Onny Cottage because it was small, friendly and cosy. Since last March, the home has been de-cluttered and refreshed this has given it a lighter fresher feel. Thoughtful changes like new carpet in the hall and more support for physical care are evident. Ultimately, its the staff, their kindness, their interest in my mother-in-law is what warms the heart. There should be more Onny Cottages it's a brilliant model.

These respite breaks can be a chance to meet new people or simply enjoy peaceful solitude. Whether planned in advance or arranged on short notice, Onny provides flexible support tailored to individual needs.
Rehabilitation
Occupational therapy plays a vital role in rehabilitation, helping residents regain independence after accidents or illnesses that impact their ability to perform daily activities. At Onny, we use evidence-based models to assess, set, analyse, and review therapy goals, creating personalized plans that support each resident’s optimal recovery. Our interventions are designed to enhance comfort, accelerate healing from illness, injury, or trauma, and facilitate a smooth transition back to daily life at home. Onny Cottage provides a welcoming environment where residents can rest and recover or actively participate in their rehabilitation journey.

At Onny Cottage, our Stay a Day experience offers a warm, safe, and homely environment where guests feel truly cared for. Our dedicated care team provides nutritious meals and, if needed, gentle support with eating and drinking. Guests can easily access our beautiful outdoor space, with caring staff available to accompany them on a relaxing ‘walk and talk’ or to enjoy alfresco dining in the gazebo overlooking the front lawns and gardens. Our compassionate team assists with personal care, including bathing, toileting, washing, dressing, grooming, and even on-site hairdressing or barbering services. A variety of engaging activities enrich each day, from baking and flower arranging to artist visits and physical exercise. We also take the time to understand each guest’s personal interests during the initial assessment, ensuring that every visit to Onny Cottage is both enjoyable and fulfilling. Choose your own itinerary to include a personal care package if required.

The team are carefully chosen not only for their qualifications, but for their warmth and genuine desire to care. As the Service Provider and Registered Manager at Onny Cottage, Linda holds a BSC (Hons) in Occupational Therapy, and her background allows her to deliver a unique service in a small homely environment. She is passionate about using occupation to reduce ailments of health conditions and aging and her commitment to reducing falls and pressure care have been acknowledged by professionals. At the heart of the home is a humanistic approach and through Linda's relationship centred approach; residents, families and the care team are supported to navigate through life's challenges with autonomy and confidence. She believes it is all about self worth. Through teaching and encouraging compensatory techniques and the use of specialised equipment alongside the importance of daily physical activity , residents are enabled to live comfortably and age well, and the team are empowered to provide a good quality service. Linda has been awarded accreditation from The Royal College of Occupational Therapy for contributing to best practice, and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Emily holds a BSc in Sports Coaching (Disability) which is evident in her daily practice through her practical skills and knowledge in coaching, physical activity, and inclusive practice has helped residents with rehabilition and maintaining an active lifestyle. Emily works with residents and healthcare professionals to ensure effective care and manages a robust mediction management system and Person Centred Software System that keeps the service up to date to provide digital compliance. Emily is experienced at creating person centred care plans and reviews, working with local GP's and the Multi Disciplinary team to ensure good health of residents. Emily is a key part in a residents transition into a new home and completes initial assessments to ensure all health needs are met and flags any concerns or changes to the Registered Manager. As part of the Association for Dementia Studies at the University of Worcester, Emily champions Physical Activity for People Affected by Dementia. Emily has recently acheived the Level 4 Leadership in Health and Social Care and is now working towards the Level 5 Registered Manager Award.
Donna has a backgroud in care and now specialises in the cooking of nutritious food for all who live and work at Onny. Donna is a skilled cook as she understands the importance of enjoying food that you love . She works with residents to ensure they design the menu as a whole home. Donna holds a Level 2 in Health and Social Care and the Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate. She has worked with well known industry specialists to achieve a 5 stars food hygiene rating and maintains this high standard by reguarly recording and reporting to the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) standards. Donna leads the themed food parties at Onny Cottage and the residents have enjoyed dishes from around the world, old time recipes and tasting sessions. Donna has achieved great success in making mealtimes at Onny Cottage none institutionalised by providing a traditional dining experience. To date Onny boasts zero hospital admission due to dehydration. Donna works with the residents in their activity kitchen where they can make their own food or enjoy pastry making sessions.
Jess has recently joined Onny Cottage and brings a whole lot of common sense which has helped her settle into home life. Without prompts Jess has got to know the residents really well and is a natural, using their familiar language and sense of humour she is good company to keep. Jess also works on a farm and a proud Young Farmers Member and brings lots of stories to those who have similar backgrounds. Several residents love talking about the farm life and this has forged a strong connection. Jess is an ambassador for intergenerational care work. She has completed all induction training , holds a Fire Warden Certificate and First Aider Certificate, and currently working towards her the Care Certificate and the Level 2 Health & Social Care Qualification.
Deon holds a a HNC in Sports Business Studies, Care Certificate , Fire Warden and First Aider. His background in Sports gives him his team spirit combined with a unique desire to support the family business; Deon has been an integral part of setting up Onny in 2021, and works with Linda to manage the business as a whole to provide a caring, kind service. He is a reliable, fun loving, sensible and silly at the same time male carer. He supports residents with all aspects of their care needs and works with the team to mange shifts efficiently.
Rosie holds a QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care, The Care Certificate and a Certificate in Multi Sensory Impairment, Fire Warden Certificate, First Aider. Rosie specialises in multi sensory impairment of vision and hearing loss or a combination of both. Rosie's valueable experience allows a sensitive approach to care that is specific to the individual's needs. Rosie's earlier career as a trained Horticulturist makes her comfortable in the outdoors too and enjoys doing or being in the garden with the residents where she is able to combine both knowledge of sensory integration with the natural world for residents to enjoy.
A qualified retired Nurse, Lynne has a wealth of knowedge of health conditions and the impact on both physical and mental health. Her experience of running an overseas care home for many years contributes to her level headed approach to caring for a person with illness or long term health conditions. Her critical and analytical thinking skills enable Lynne to perform detailed assessment and observation to make informed decisions that she shares with the individual, team and families. Lynn has the ability to use her great sense of humour combined with a kindness and empathy that exceeds her to build valuable therapeutic relationships.
Libby has recently achieved a Level 2 in Health and Social Care and having embarked on a care career at Onny, has used her common sense approach to learn and get to know individual residents and their families. Libby has used her existing and new skills to confidently support individuals with all aspects of personal care and activities of daily living. Libby always encourages people to do what they can themselves and is an advocate for walking and physical activity. Her way of connecting with residents derives from her no nonsense and honest outlook . A great team member, Libby communicates openly and is a great listener who is able to adapt to a given situation and prioritise what's important. Her positivity and friendliness is a unique quality.
Lynsey holds City and Guilds Level 3, Hairdressing and as a qualified Hairdresser her transferable skills are seen in her communications with both residents , families and colleagues. Lynsey is an active listener who responds appropriately. She works as a waking night carer so her ability to work confidently on her own makes her flexible and responsible. Lynsey has achieved her Care Certificate, Fire Warden and First Aid Certificates and all mandatory training, and as a reliable team member she is responsible for providing assistance during the night and helps with all aspects of personal care and monitoing health . Lynsey also offers companionship for those who are awake and this is a valuable part of her role as she gets to know the resident's routines and habits so they feel safe and comfortable during the night.
Pardeep holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( BSc) from India and is a competent confident individual who has been adept at transferring her education into the practical world of care. She holds the Care Certificate and all manadatory care training certificates. Pardeep is qualified Fire Warden and First Aider. Pardeep's skill as a Night Carer highlights her responsible attitude that keeps residents safe but also happy if awaking and her empathy and kindness nutures those who live at Onny Cottage. As a Night Carer, Pardeep provides support and reassurance, helping with personal care and mobility and is able to work unsupervised because she is able to adapt to different situations confidently. Pardeep has built trusting relationships and is reliable, honest and trustworthy so the residents can sleep comfortably knowing she is on call if they need anything.
As a Head of Compliance, Yvonne manages and advised on the quality compliance system, ethical standards and regulatory changes.Yvonne has a wealth of knowledge of regulated services as her previous career was as a Dental Surgery Practice Manager so is very adept with working to a high standard in clinical, infection control and good goverance areas. Yvonne manages the audits and team training and the compliance data is at 97% and above at all times.
Yvonne guides the team to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance system that deals with regulation, legal and ethical requirements. Yvonne is very adept at identifying and assessing the compliance risks and reports any service improvements to the Home Manager, keeping compliance at the top of the Onny Agenda.
Inbetween this demanding role, she will be found with the residents, laughing, reminscing or ' just helping out'. Above all, she is friendly, dependable and able to relate to the whole team, residents and their families.
We've created a private Facebook page for families of our residents to stay updated on what’s happening at Onny Cottage. We post regular updates, so families can easily keep in touch. Privacy is a top priority for us, which is why the group is closed, and we never use photos of residents outside this group for marketing purposes.

We are surrounded by beautiful walking trails, perfect for outdoor lovers, and there's a farm shop just a short walk away for fresh, local produce. Family and friends visiting their relatives will also appreciate the nearby pubs serving tasty food, drinks and accommodation.
